epunched and misplaced dates as collectible variety types are limited to the years prior to 1909.  It was in 1909 that the mint began using a full hubbing procedure which included the date with the design elements.  Prior to 1909 the date was punched in by hand using a logo punch.  Such hand punching of course led to multiple images (repunched dates) or dates out of their proper area, either too high or too low (misplaced dates).  CONECA has not attempted to catalog repunched or misplaced dates, but instead has left this work to the researchers and specialty clubs which have grown up around each series.
