1974-S Doubled Punch 1995-D 1c DDO-001

In 1952 the lower serif of the Denver mintmark punch became damaged.  The upper serif clearly shows three punches and indeed this is an RPM listed in the CONECA files as RPM-023.

In 1972 the Denver mintmark punch began to deteriorate.  It appears the upper loop of the punch began to delaminate, peeling sections away.  At one time these were thought to be RPMs, but the absence of splits in the serifs confirmed they were only damage.

In 1979 the Denver mintmark punch developed a chip at the lower serif.  This is often confused as an RPM by beginners because it resembles a split serif.
